My tank has been up and running for a little over a year...
I realized the other week the ph was a little low, I raised it with water changes and now I have an ammonia spike. Has this ever happened to anyone??
Please help!!

Everything was fine before now my corals all don't look too healthy anymore :(

I did ANOTHER 9% water change last night to try to lower it, and put some carbon in the sump.

Any advice to save my corals would be appreciated.

+1 a WC should not cause ammonia to spike, well unless you did a huge water changed and left rock exposed for a long time then stuff would die. But there has to be something else going on... Is all your livestock accounted for?

I had a mandarin blow up. Stomach blew up and popped, but that was 2-3 weeks
Ago and I took what I could out. Also I use to see a peanut worm come out once in a while that I never see anymore... My water change water is ro/di and I did test it last night to make sure and it was perfect.
This really bites.

One website said that ph, ammonia as calcium are all relative.
Nobody has ever had this happen?

Everything was fine for a week after te mandarin died. It wasn't until I did a water change to raise ph that everything went haywire and corals started degresing. Everything was doing so good before. Would it take that long for part of a decomposing body hiding in the rock to do that? I took most of the dead mandarin out right away. It doesn't make sense. Any suggestions on what to do?? Should I do another 9% water change tonight or wait a day or two?

Ammonia I would say is around .5ppm when I tested it yesterday nitrate and nitrite were 0ppm.

N I had my ph up to 8.2 and now since the ammonia rose the ph went back down to 8.0.

I don't know. At first I thought she was pregnate but then 3 or 4 months went by and she was still bubbled out by her stomach so I asked the local fish store and they said they have heard of mandarins popping. He said they get something stuck in them. I don't know the intricate answer of how. There is nothing online about it... But sure enough I can home one day n found te back half of the mandarin. Back to my ammonia problem!!!
What should I do??
