I was just adding some Kent Garlic xtreme to my cyclopeeze- and put way too much in by accident... I usually put a few drops - this was a small squirt. Put it in my tank anyway w/ the food.. now my tank smells awful!!!

I'm thinking it will go away, and I'm doing a water change this weekend - I just wanted to know if anyone thought that too much garlic could harm things? Nothing seems hurt by it- in fact everything is opened up more.. but man does it smell! :bigeyes2:

I know on the bottle it says it is VERY strong & to use about 2 drops, because "fish are sensitive to chemical cues & scents in the water."
I'm not sure if it will have any ill affects, though.

You have a small system, so I would do a small water change.

i use a lil very lil garlic in everything i feed em... maybe 2 drops or so and i mix with the tank water before adding the food to the tank... i used to add a lil more but no ill effects or smells over here i also got my skimmer running really good now... i dunno i think u should be ok.. do a 5 gallon water change depending on how big ur tank is just to be on the safe side..

ok. well I probably won't be able to get to a water change until Sunday... I have a huge exam coming up that is really kicking my a$$...

guess I will have to take the time to do a small one though if it still smells by tomorrow - skimmers on, water cleared up - everything looks fine... but still smells pretty bad! :dead1:

Not to worry, for about 3 months straight I used to dose about a capful in a container mixed with mysis/saltwater and stopped after I read a previous thread on this site. Did not harm, and yes it did smell a little but the skimmer/waterchange or topoff usually took care of all of that. But no harm done.

thnx guys... smell is not any where near as bad as last night- still strong though!

think adding new carbon, keeping the skimmer on, and a small water change should do it...

Reefer,

I does pretty heavy with Garlic! (one full squirt) Other than the smell in the room and my hands, I do not see any ill effects on my tank. If anything, all my fish seems to have a boost of health and energy!!

Good Luck!
