Hey guys, I'm currently building my system and would like to have a few counter measures in place to prevent floods,etc... I would like to know what type of check valves are you using or recommend? Swing check (flapper), George Fisher Wye, etc? Thanks.

Most of us do not use check valves as they give a false sense of security and are prone to failure in a reefing environment (algae build up, snails in piping..etc).

Depending on the layout of your plumbing, proper water levels in sumps, proper positioning of returns or siphon breaks if one is using an oveflow box are some of ways to avoid a flood if power cuts off.

Thanks Kathy, I never used one myself. One of my buddies swears by those things. I always relied on positioning of returns and the water levels in my sump. I never had a flood in 10+ years, but we just moved into a new home and can't afford to upset my wife in the event of a flood in my living room. Anyways, I will stick to what I have done since it has worked for me. Thanks again.

Good decision. I don't recommend them either.
