That sucks, I think my wrasse jumped and the cat got him or something recently.. I haven't seen him in a week and no body was found, it'd be pretty easy for him to hop out because my tank is rimless and all but oh well lol. Sorry for your loss.

On my tank I am using a net made out of this:

http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/clear-1-4-screen-netting-7-x-3.html

You just need to get the stuff needed to make mosquito screens from Home depot and use the nylon version as your screen. It does not prevent the light from going in at all. Only thing is, after a couple of months (around 8 from my experience) you need to replace it as it becomes brittle (I am not sure if it is from the salt creep or the MH cooking it)

Sorry for you loss.

Just FYI egg crate will dramatically reduce the amount of light getting into the tank.

+1 You will lose approx 35% or more of your light if you use eggcrate.

All fish tanks should be covered to keep the fish inside, many are jumpers and all fish can be startled by something happening outside of the tank.
THEY HAVE NO IDEA THERE ISN'T MORE WATER OUTSIDE OF THE TANK...and yes, I am shouting. I hate to see this many fish deaths for such an avoidable reason :(

..a cover will cost you way less than the price of 1 average prices fish...

ANY fish tank without a cover IMO is irresponsible...i've seen my wrasses get startled hundreds of times and dart right into the netting and slung back into the water with a SPLASH...

Truthfully i blame all manufactures for not producing a proper cover for every dimension tank made. I don't get it...It should be considered a MUST have since it saves your fishes lives, literally. I'm also bothered how other people comment on their own jumpers like its acceptable...tell the dead fish that your sorry for its cause of death and not the fish keeper for their loss.
