Tony, with your Ca over 450, you will have a very hard time balancing your Alk - just what I have found in my tank and not related to any research (although if you read the link Hermz sent you, you will see that it does relate).

Also, what about evap/exhange? I have found my PH is highest when I have good evap/exchange.

thanks house i have an :idea2:... put 2 of the toyo fans i got down below were my sump is... cause my evaporation isnt that much that i expected.. maybe a gallon a day or so...

yea when i read that whole thing i found that calcium is tied in the alk. which gets me thinking how did kris have cal at 490 and alk at 11-12... hmmm i thought the higher u go in cal the lower u go in alk... (i aint doubting ur levels kris but reading what i read it pretty much says alk should go down with a higher cal.)

Tony ,

You can have higher levels if something can maintain them while animals are absorbing them. A Ca Reactor is what will make that balance more stable.

At one point, I was adding a 16oz cup of Ca and one of Alk to maintain 8.0 in my 180 - can only imagine how much I saved since putting in the CR-6 MRC reactor - best $700 I have ever spent.

I am pretty stable at 480 and 9.6-11.0 and dose 8 oz of 2 part B-Ionic after my weekly water changes. I have stopped testing.

i guess that lil haze i had in the tank that i thought was snails doing there thang was a chemistry problem cause my tank is very very clear now... interesting...

I think you're onto something with that. When I would overdose my nano back in the day with Kalk, the tank would fog up and the Calcium would precipitate into solid little clumps of white. Same thing happened when I overdid it with Ca product like sea chem. Ease off the Ca and get Alk in check, then keep them both in check but dont forget Mg.

I'd lend ya my Ca reactor, but right about now I dont know what the hell I'm doing with my tanks lol. I'll let ya know later in the week, maybe you'll like it enough to buy your own :teeth:
