I have this hair gel looking type of algea that has started growing on random parts of my sand or eggcrate. What can I do other than siphon it? Is there any special snails shrimp that eat this?
if it's clear it might be dead stuff, maybe snails.i just had a big snail die and it had all this clear thick slime around it, same with the clown and crocea from the last group buy.
siphon it out, more or less likely to be cyano bacteria. it's a clear green brown and red slimey looking bacteria. you will see bubbles forming inside the slime as well. to test if it's cyano see if it peels off when you blast some water at it. they dont bond to surfaces very well, if it is syphon it out and do a water change.
Increase water flow at cyano site
Reduce nitrates/phosphates
Dose chemicals (Red Slime Remover/Chemi-Clean)
Reduce photoperiod
Get a Fighting conch (mine never ate it)
There's tons of info on Reef Central on dealing with cyano. Good luck!
