So i have found having a refugium basically pointless, at least for my tank and the size i have designated for it. so i am taking my sump apart and i want to convert my free section into a little frag holding area. i am looking for a compact light that i can use to cover about a 12x12 area. trying to stay under 100 or if i have to a little over. any recommendations. must be able to grow sps.

na i wasn't looking to go that crazy mike lol. theres just a free section in my sump that i have nothing to do with, i feel like i am wasting it by just leaving it empty or leaving a ball of chaeto in there to slowly die. where did you buy your par38 bulb from?

Home depot, but IMOP if it was that easy to buy a $40 bulb at HD and grow some nice sps in your sump more people would be dooing it
Why don't you put some live rock in that compartment and maybe add to your filtration ?

You can also check with Wingo. See what he suggest. I believe he had some LEDs for nanos that will probably work for what you need.
