How many ai sols would I need for for a 120 gallon thats 4 feet by 2 feet? and how many would I need for a 155 bow front that's 72 inches?

With no SPS in the 120 you can get away with 2 of them on the tank. Just watch the outout on them. I have mine dialed back 10% white, 15%blue, 15% royal blue. And it is plenty of light for the 65 they are on now. I'm upgrading to a 120 myself and 2 will be plenty for the tank.
I have a 60 cube (which is essentially half the 120) and it's lit with one AI Sol Blue. I have a central rock pile and it's an LPS tank. I think it's great. But you will have to hang it... Say 8-10 inches over for complete coverage.

That's exactly how high I have my light fixture that I have now. And it's a 48 inch MARINELAND light fixture and it's plenty of light for my 155 bow front thats 72 inches long

I have 4 running parallel to the front glass in a 180g, 2 in an 102g which measures 39.5"x24"x24" also running parallel, 2 in a 30"x30"x17" cube and my modules are peaked at 55w 90b 90rb for a few hours.
The 2 in the 102g is somewhat lacking to me since I see shadows so I would be one of those "guys" that side to minimal does not work for my liking and I do not run these at extremely low intensities after the tank has been acclimated to the lights.

hmmm. So maybe I should get 4 of them to play it safe. 3 would be good for a 120 but that wouldn't work. So I either have to get 2 or 4. But I'm also thinking that 4 ai's would be onerkill for a 120 gallon

How do you plan to mount them? If you build something that can position them parallel to the front glass, try 3 first. If you plan on using their mounting system which places them perpendicular (front to back), then I would go with their recommended 4 modules unless you can get them hung high.

I haven't figured that out yet. But the problem with 3 of them is that the 120 gallon that's 4 feet by 2 feet had the center brace. The center brace is gonna be the problem when trying to use 3 ai's

I have seen tanks go front to back with ais on left and right side and then right to left with 1 module in center kind of forming a capital H and switching out the optics has its benefits as well!!! But I think three is even more than you would need !!

H shapes are good for tanks with center overflows. This is what I had in my 102g but went down to 2 modules to see if it would work. I will probably go back to the 3 modules in an H shape like I had it here:

With a center braced tank, and the option of using 2 modules, you should consider using a pair of Radions since they have better coverage. (food for thought)

I like how yours looks MIKE. I think I'm gonna go with the 4. The H shape looks good but the center brace would be the issue for the h shape. Does the railing kit come with the wires also MIKE?

If your talking about the hanging kit wires I'm not positive but I think the rails and the wires are sold separately.
I did not buy the hanging wires and the rail kit I got used from a MR member.
I had mine originally in the H configuration and did not like the coverage.
IMOP and I have the center brace also, better coverage the way I got it in the pic
