pulled the trigger on a new 120

so after weeks of debating today i finally went ahead and pulled the trigger on a new deep blue professionals 120 gallon reef ready with dual overflows and the deep blue series 1 stand.as usual rich over at aquarium village gave me a great deal. I went against building my own sump and went with the eshopps rs-200 paired up wit the deep blue triton 5 return pump and my existing skimmer and gfo reactor. the tank should be here tuesday and i can not wait to get it set up and get everything transferred over. just thought id share my excitement with the MR community. :groupflip

Thanks I was like a kid in a candy store today... For now I'm just going to switch over my 48" current nova extreme pro 6x54 t5 lighting to the new tank. Not really sure how that's going to pan out with the 24" depth of the 120. Eventually planning on going to LEDs but just don't have the money at the moment so I'm hoping the nova extreme pro will be sufficient for now.. I have mostly softies and Lps so I think it should be fine for the next month or so until I save up enough to purchase the LEDs

I picked up a 120 last week nice upgrade. I'm going back to t5s, gonna sell my AI's and go with an ATI 8x54.

Yea I have all ati bulbs as well.. I just don't know if the 6x54 will be sufficient. Can I ask why your switching back from LEDs ? Seems like a lot of people are unhappy with LEDs lately. Makes me question if I should even go with LEDs or just get an 8 or 10 bulb t5 setup

8 bulbs is more than enough, ati fixtures put out some serious light.

Going with the ati fixture as well not just the bulbs, but I'm switching because everything seems happier and has better colors in my other tank with T5's. I get more growth with them, I will still add a 48" reefbrite most likely. Always had 6 bulbs never 8 so I need to see what the end result will be with 8 bulbs.

T5 HO is the most coast effective way to light these big tanks it seems to me. LED for a tank that size will be big bucks unless you build a light set up your self take a look a raped LED and see if its something you mite take on.

That's not true for cost, all you need for a 120 is 2-3 AI's for a 120 which would be about the same as the ATI fixture without bulbs. Then about 200 in bulbs plus electricity cost for the T5 is more as well. 54 watts per bulb, I forget the AI watt consumption but it's most likely a third of the t5.

Well after 12 hours of hard labor the transfer is finally complete ! Never again will I attempt to do all that in one day. I must admit tho sitting back and looking at the tank now makes it all worth it.

looks great, be careful of the heat coming off the light fixture tricking you thermostat on the wall.
