OK so i am feeding my fish earlier this evening and I am counting my fish. I see 4 of my 6 clown fish. (I have a 210 gal reef tank total water volume 300 gal) all the rest of my fish are eating up a storm. I start to get a little worried when I don't see them after about 5 minutes. I am looking in the rock on the floor under the tank everywhere no clown fish. not sure why but i decided to look inside the overflows BOTH MISSING CLOWN FISH ARE INSIDE THE SAME OVERFLOW. My tank has two overflows. What are the chances that both fish would jump into the same overflow at the same time. Has this ever happened to anyone else. Getting them out was no easy task. First of all my tank is in the basement with a 79 inch ceiling. the tank clearance to the ceiling is only 14 inch not a ton of room to work. It is only 8 and 1/2 inches from the wall so i can't really get behind the tank. So there I am keeling on top of a step ladder with most of my weight resting on the tank as I am reaching over the top trying to see into the overflow. I had to lift up one of the two durso stand pipes just enough to let the water drain so i did not have to chase them around the overflow. My wife is holding my Pacific sun triton led light so it does not get bumped into the tank and fall. (i have the lights resting on the tank at the moment not hung) It took about 10 min of fast work to get them out and the tank up and running again. I have a filter sock covering the top of my two overflows now so they can't jump back in again. But not sure this will stop them because they keep swimming up against the top to the overflows and looking at them like they want back in. Strange fish these two clowns are. Anyone have any suggestions on a better solution to this problem how to prevent them from jumping into the overflows again.
