I'm in the middle of moving my tank today from downstairs to upstairs. My question is, how long can I keep the rock out of water without detrimental effects?
why don't you get a large rubbermaid, start syphoning your water into it and add rock at the same time. move the tank, and then carry the rock upstairs. if needed get some smaller rubbermaids for carrying the rock so you don't kill yourself this will insure the least amount of die off.
it depends on how you did it... if u did it the way jennie had stated u should have close to nothing..... i would say not anything to be worried about...
ummm did you have sand in the tank, how long was it set up for and did u stir up the sand if you did have sand in there...
Hey Steve, congrats on completing the move. I know that's a daunting task. I'm sure you're glad it's behind you now.
As for a minicycle, If you had an established tank, you should be fine even if you had your rock out of water for a couple of hours. You'll have die off, but I've lost fish in my tank and not worried about the dieing and cycling from that. Not a whole lot different. An established tank with an established bacterial colony can actually handle more than people give it credit for. Your biological colony will actually be stronger after any potential mini cycle is complete too.
