My Blue Hippo still has ick, as well as my Royal Gramma, the hippo is constantly getting cleaned by the blood fire and cleaner shrimp but the ick stays, I've been soaking food with Garlic Extreme and to no avail, should I dip him in Freshwater for 2 minutes to try and kill of the ick, would that work at all, he's still eating like crazy but the ick is beating him up,

Time for hospitalization.

If you do decide to go for fresh water dip, I would go easy first like 1 minute instead of 2 to make sure everything is Ok without over stressing the patient. If it does not work then go tougher.

A freshwater dip isn't going to do anything. You need to give the fish a bath of between 20-25 min or less if the fish can't take it. Make sure you raise the Ph up to the what the tank is. Then as Ink said get it into a hospital tank and start to treat with copper.

Keep Up With The Garlic. I Use Kent Marines Extreme Garlic. I Have A Hippo Too, He Was Mint When I Got Him 2''. 2 Weeks Later He Had Velvet Ick And Really Bad Popeye In Both Eyes And They Were The Size Of A Dime. Soak Brine Shrimp And Garlic Over Night In Your Fridge And Then Feed. Small Amounts Several Times A Day.

Mine Was Not Even Able To See The Food He Slowly Became Better After A Long Sickness And Now He Is Fine

Marine C Is Good Too. But I Would Soak Some Marine Flakes, Brine Shrimp And Spectra Thera H. Its A Non Medicated Anti-bacterial Formula (very Good Stuff). And Just Be Patient. Every Time In The Past When I Fw Dipped Hippos Its Nothing But Pain And Suffering For The Fish After.

Agreed that fresh water dip will do little(that's why I said "if you decide to" in my first post) but still we can clearly see, in some cases-not many, the parasite that are not too deeply inside the skin will fall off.

However, copper is always more powerful for quick treatment despite it's even more dangerous and harder to master the treatment. Never leave your eyes on the fish when treating with copper. When you are ready to put him back to the main tank make sure the water is diluted back to mostly just the main tank water so that any trace of copper on its skin will be diluted as well.

Long term hospitalization tank should run hypo salinity. Safest way(besides garlic which I have no experience with) but takes awhile for complete healing.
