Upgrading this weekend and need to pick up sand.

Not really sure what to choose.

My tank is 30x23"x 19 high and I would like a 1.5"-2" sandbed. I really like uniform sand that's generally fine grade. I'm going to be running very high flow but still want to create uneven sand levels. Does anyone have input on something that's very white and fine but not sugar grade. Uniform sand without all those shells etc..

Anyone have any suggestions? (Definitely asked a thousand times)!

Jon if you want uneven sand with all that flow go with oolite. You'll have sand drifts all over the tank :D I still think you should stick to something like the Caribsea reef grade 2mm size.

sand

Hey Jonny, if you want i have Natures ocean samoa pink fiji sand. I used it in my tank if you remember. I have a brand new 20lb bag and the 30 gallon fuge i had set up with a 2 inch sand bed. it's still got salt water in it, but i would still rinse it. If you want?

How many pounds do you think I need for a 30x23" footprint?

For typical aragonite type sand, for that footprint you will need:
56 pounds for a 2" sand bed
84 pounds for a 3" sand bed

..and btw - a pure white sand bed looks as bad as a pure black sand bed after a while due to bits of rock being strewn about from the critters in your tank. Usually best to stick with sand the color you find on beaches so it all blends in :)
