This looks like the best guide to me: http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2008-08/nftt/index.php

I personally started 2 days ago, I have dosed day 3 today so tomorrow begins the increase in quantity and I am doing it in conjunction with H2O2 dosing. I read that the 2 are supposed to compliment each other because H202 is supposed to add more oxygen to the water, kill off algae but also kills off some of the beneficial bacteria. The vodka on the other hand, strips oxygen from the water and promotes bacterial growth which in turn lowers phosphates and nitrates.

I read about vinegar myself but does that have to be used with kalkwasser? That was my only issues with vinegar dosing although it sounded much safer than vodka

You can use it with kalk ,people sometimes do to compensate for the drop in ph but I notice the drop is so minute plus I have it dosing towards the end of my tanks light cycle that the slight ph drop is not even noticeable

I used to dose Vodka and H202 and then switched to Vinger and H202 I have not doesd H202 in forever. When you use the vinger you need tio use a lot more then vodka. Both put carbon in the water which boosts benifical bacteria. I only used to dose H2O2 for hair alage. I now run Bio pellets in a calights reactor so I dont have to dos either Vodka or Viniger. They are all very effective at keeping Nitrates and Phosphaes low.

H2O2 is household hydrogen peroxide. 1ml per ecery 10gal of volume water once a day. As far as hair alage you have high phosphates and please dont tell me ur test kit reads 0. You should be running some type of phosphate sponge or absorber. Or even better gfo. Test and if your test kit actially starts reading phosphates then its working. Your phos levels should be around .02-.04. Yes your corals need phosphates. As far as vinger or vodka it a personal prefrence but if u use vinger its at least 2x the dosage. Make sure you read up on this topic because you will crash your alk and cause big issues if nit dine properly its a sliw fine tunning process that takes a lot of testing and time ti pinpoint the dosage and once you add amother fish feed more or disturbe the sand bed you are right back to square 1. Thats why i went with bio pellet reactor its mire a set it and forget it. You will only add new pellets 1-2 times a year depending on the pellets u use. Again must gi very very slow with any of these processes

Hey, what kind of vinegar do you use? Red or White?

Also, how do you dose, straight pour of into the tank or do you drip it in over an extended period each day?

I have been using vodka for months now with no impact on nitrates. was simply pouring in the dose.

Been dosing for few years but I use vinegar instead ,less cyno outbreak than with vodka
Nitrates undetectable ,with heavy bio load and heavy feedings
