Hi fellow reefers:

I may be overthinking this, but I was wondering if the placement of the skimmer would make a difference if not in the first chamber of a sump.

my current sump (for the last three years) has three chambers: the water from DT goes into chamber one with the skimmer---> then water flows into chamber two where I have a fuge (LR, macro, and other stuff that has accumulated over the years)---> then water flows to chamber three where the return pump is.

in my new setup, I would like the chamber 1 to be the fuge-like (LR and macros), and chamber 2 to be the skimmer....would it make a difference?
Logically I know the fuge-like will benefit from all the nutrients prior to skimming.

The current setup I have has been working very well...so I would like some inputs of others reefers on the new (my new) config.

Thanks...I'm probably over thinking.

#1 You also don't want chaeto heading into chamber #2 and getting into your expensive pump. Much easier to find return pumps.
#2 Likely to have more microbubbles having the skimmer in section 2
#3 You already mentioned that it would be more beneficial if the skimmer gets the feed first.

I personally have tried multiple configurations and my preference will be just like you have it now. Skimmer - fuge - return.
