Hello,

I am hoping someone can offer some advice or info with a situation I am having with my tank. Basically all my equipment is covered with this white film that is hard to scrub off. Its covered my whole inside hub skimmer, my 2LF reactor, all my plumbing, and my laser from Tunze which has to be cleaned every 5 days .I have cleaned all my equipment two weeks ago and the white film has returned. Its getting very frustrating.

At the moment my only theory is this white film is unbroken protein that has build up which my protein skimmer is not doing its job. Therefore running through the whole system it stains the equipment. This problem started a few months ago. All my levels are stable and my fish and corals doing perfect.

Anyone have any ideas please. Thanks .

My sand had did that to my tank and all my equipment. I used vinegar soaked sponge and it came off. Just soak some of your equipment in hot water and vinegar and it'll come off

I did that but it comes back within a week. I am getting annoyed I have to service my equipment every 3-4 weeks. I wish I could figure out the problem that is causing this because it started not to long ago.

calcium (mineral) deposits, take white vinegar mix it with water 1/1 and souk everything in a bucket for several hours or even overnight it will come up actually it will fell off but you are dosing a lot of calcium and your AKL is low because you got this deposit

I had that on my rocks, return hose and glass. when i scraped it off it was like a stringy clearish, whitish film. Really difficult to get off.

I just kept up with my water change and cleaned equipment (may cleaned equipment once) and it eventually went away.

Funny thing a lot of purple coralline algae came up where the white film was.

So turns out my test kit was expired and the cal and alk readings were way off. My alk was at 13.3 and Cal at 107. You think that's what was causing the white residue on all my equipment? I realized when a few of my corals started looking really bad so I went out and bought elos tester kit.
