I am starting to get cyno in my fuge only. None in my DT. Could old light bulbs have an effect on cyno growing? Chaeto seems to be fine, and there is a decent amount of flow, i actually added a small powerhead to make sure that there was in fact enough flow.

Oh last test of Phos was .03 (hanna)

I would first change the bulb. Maybe even go for three days with lights out if you can.

I've read excellent things about Special Blend, and tried some last night. We'll see how it works, as I've heard it takes a few doses.

Ignorant to special blend.. Can you link if you dont mind.

I can turn the lights off for a few days that is not an issue. I will even throw a blanket over the fuge area to make sure that no light gets to it. or just cover the window in the basement. The chaeto in there will do fine..

I had the same issue when I had my 120 and after replacing the bulb w both a brand new 6500K CFL and than a 18w LED pendant the only thing that worked was vacuuming it out,new carbon and special blend.

Did you have cyano when you used it? i wrote alot about how i have cyano and i used SB and it did nothing. i didnt even see it slowing up. getting a bigger skimmer has helped so far but still not gone. i have had cyano in every one of my setups from MH to T5 to the LEDs but i never had a over rated skimmer like i do now. so far im only basting 2 times a week instead of everyday so it has slowed up alot . its only in the sand bed area and in certain spots of the tank its not like im over run with it like i see so many other tanks so if SB didnt help in a small cyano problem i cant see it working in a large cyano problem
