help with water par

I tested my water 11/9 ( cal-490, alk-8.1, mag 1500 ). I tested it today ( cal-425, Alk 7.44, mag-1350 ). I want to start using my BM-T01. Should I do a water change first before setting it up? And are my levels dropping to rapid?

What kind of tank do you run? Sps/mixed? What size? What salt? Salinity?

What kits are you using to test?

Nothing is dropping too rapid, (11/9s cal and mag were high in comparison to your alk and your consumption can be out of whack because of it, or the possibility of test kit error.

For four days that's not to bad for a heavily stocked system. The second reading is much more desirable cal/mag) but your alk should be around 9.0 with a cal reading of 425.

How are you testing and what are you currently dosing? (Esv? Brs?)

Raise your alk, hold off on dosing and then figure out your consumption once a balance is obtained.

i have a 60g cube, 30 fuge. i'm using salifert for cal & mag. And I'm using hanna for alk. The salt I'm using us Instant Ocean. And salinity at 1.024

i have 1 big monti cap i just got and a few monti frags. The rest are lps and softies

Hannah checker for alk is probably (possibly) the reason for a low alk reading, double check that with a different kit and report back.

Raise your salinity to 1025

What are you dosing?

I'll get a salifert kit for my alk tomorrow. I'm using ESV for cal, alk, and mag.

Are you dosing to raise low levels that Io salt contains?

Im actually not too familiar with io salt, are you using regular io? Or a reef version they offer?(??)

Have you been dosing? Or are you just starting? If so, How long & how much are you dosing?

Esv bionic alk and calcium is a 2 part solution and has magnesium included in the two part system.

The mag would only be used to replenish if its out of whack. No need for a daily dose unless your correcting a low mag content. (For most systems)

Those Hannah's are known to give bad alk readings, most say they only trust them for phosphate.

I havent dose nothing as of yet. But esv is what I will be using to dose. This is a new setup minus that water. I got my rocks/corals and water from another member. I wish I wouldve know about that Hanna's. I just bought that 2/3 weeks ago.

Since this is a new tank, you should really wait a few weeks and keep an eye on usage once things settle in. What makes you think you need to dose?

i seen that my level was dropping. I thought it was kinda quick. I'll test on sunday and post the results.
