Neon Toadstool Failing apart

I have a huge 6" neon toadstool and recently its been losing pieces of its head.

The polyps are still extending but the top 'cup' section is losing pieces. It starts as a small hole and grows till a piece just falls off. The edges are white where the tears are.

I dont have a pic right now, but can get one later if needed.

Is this thing dying? or just shedding?

I have about 6 babies from this thing ranging from 1" to 5" that are totally fine. The pieces that fall off are even totally fine once I remount them.

Toadstools do this to reproduce. Google it, there are a ton of hits on it.

If you're noticing holes you may want to check and see if you have Leather Nudi, as they can be a problem.

Yeah, one that I bought within 3 days it started falling apart.
Only the foot actually died but all of the splits survived.
Since I wanted it in a nice bigger/broader piece I shoved the babies all in one hole/area of a rock and now they are growing as 'one unit'.

Ive had one touch a mini carpet before. but this one toadstool is by itself in a corner.

Mine is doing the same thing as we speak(type). It drops a small piece every month or so. I have a green Devils hand that does the same thing. I must have a dozen frags of it all around the tank.
