Headed out to Jersey right and want to see if I can find a carbon reactor system for my 34G Solana. Any store recommendations? Recommendations , do's & don'ts about carbon I should know about? I'm kind of in a pinch because I'm moving my tank tomorrow.

Any and all help is appreciated.

Thank you!!

Hey Scoots,

So I picked up a two little fishies reactor, a pump, and some carbon tonight. When you say start with a low amount of carbon, how much should I start with?

Depend entirely on the carbon you're using. I like ESV carbon, if you're worried about using too much cut the directions down to half and replace it after 2 weeks. ESV recommends replacing once per month, I believe 1/2 cup per 40 gallons so do 1/4 cup and replace after 2 weeks, at which point you can start using regular dosage. The only reason to start slowly with carbon is if your tank is built up with a lot of dissolved organics/yellowing agents so that the light penetration increase doesn't shock zooxanthellae in corals.

The hoses should be 1/2", feed pump line as short as possible to prevent head loss (mj900 would be fine for just carbon, would recommend mj1200 tho). Since I'm sure you have limited space consider running GFO in the reactor along with carbon. Deff not the best way to run either carbon or GFO but still effective when sons right. Look at the brs video on GFO/carbon reactor for a reference on how to run both in one reactor.
