Even if the shelves seem strong enough I would not trust anything shy of lag bolts to secure them to the wall with. I would look for lags with coarse threads and use a smaller drill bit to predrill holes for them do you don't split your studs assuming they are 2X4's and not aluminum studs. If aluminum I would not put a tank or anything heavy mounted to that wall.

New building construction practices are shady at best. I have always hated aluminum studs myself.

Good luck.

Just because the bracket says 80lbs doesnt mean much. It all depends on installation, wall type and care but most important purpose. The salt will eat that bracket for lunch. Then you will have your tank on you desk.

But if you feel it will work then good luck.

My desk is actually a 29.99 long table from target. i rather scotch tape the tank to the wall than depend on that "desk" :p

lol...could just build a really tall stand to go behind the desk, interesting idea but id be a little iffy myself as well.....maybe if you make the shelf supports out of wood and bolt them straight to the studs by cutting a small section of sheet rock out and replastering and painting it afterward/
