Bacterial supplements

I see these products all over, each advertising that they can add bacterial strains which can help tanks or speed up the cycling process. I just saw this product and wanted to see if anyone has tried it,or has any input. Lets try to keep this informative and refrain from the negative " it doesn't work" comment if you haven't used the product or any other.

You are one ball basher, but I have no other choice but to be nice to you. I wanted to see what other supplements members where using. but yes Brightwells microbacter 7 does work well.

How did you use it, as a starter to cycle your tank or as a bacterial addition ?

Why not use no chemicals and let your tank cycle on its own? That's what I did on my tank didn't use nothing.

The point is not using it to cycle your tank, which you can, but to use it to increase the amount of bacteria in you tank, which will let you handle a large load right away without any spikes.

In the mid 80's people use Ammonia Chloride to boost the bacteria levels during cycling, which you could get at a chemical warehouse. This was added during the cycle, just as the ammonia level was starting to peak. It would actually turn the ammonia test kit sample black and it take a couple of weeks for the color to come down to a level that a test kit could actually read, but in time the tank would cycle and you would have a super high level of bacteria, which could handle a tremendous load and would let you almost fully stock the tank from day one.

Thanks for that input. When I started my 200DD I added several things at one time, which worked very well for me and also increased my bacterial strains. I added pods from BOB1000 denitrator, I haven't seen him around in a long time. In addition I added BW microbacter 7 at the recommended amounts. My tank cycled in about 2 weeks, however I didn't add any live stock until it was a month old. I had already cooked the rock and added the same microbacter while doing the process. I've heard of reefers adding prodibio products which is also another type of bacterial supplement, however i have not done this myself.

I used reef bugs from Marc Weiss, it's all in one, brings life to the rock and sand, and it's coral food as well.

I used Instant Ocean Bio-Spira to finish off cycling my 120g and it worked like a charm...

ive used a few diff ones in my tank but not for cycling just to add bacteria for me the prodibio was awsome the next day my water was extremly clear and my skimmer would pull extra gunk out

personally i like the microbe-lift products, use the special blend first then go to the nite-out 2, ive used this method on more then one system, couple years back at macna i went in prepared for a few of the companies, with questions and had done a little research before going, so that i could actually ask questions back as they gave me replies, few companies i am sure didnt expect me to know certain things. microbe-lift has been around for awhile, close to 30 years, one benifit to the web is you can do alot of research to find out there is only a handful of companies that really make these products, and alot of other companies who re-label other companies products and sell as their own. do a little research on microbe-lift and see what i mean, btw i have used dr tims, mb 7 and forget the other company, the nite out does what they say, lol when i use to actual test stuff, i did what they had told me and kept track of everything, and it did work, i didnt go in expecting much, nor do i ever but i was impressed, they had actually given me stuff to try and asked me to record and test and send them in the results which i did. btw i am not affliliated with nor do i recieve products from them

Used Special Blend, but seriously that bottle needs to be bundled with gas masks for you and the family! :lol2: 2 days it smelled like Ringling Brothers Circus walk through the house.
It worked very well though. Will try Seachem Stability for my cycle next week...

I used Microbe Lift Night Out II, Seachem Stability and FritzZyme 9.
The Zyme is the oldest product of the 3. I bought a $10 bottle from aquarium village. Bottle is big. I would say 32 ounces. (good deal)
All work well though. Got my tank cycled quickly after my recent crash due to hurricane Sandy.

Hi what if one uses nitrifying bacteria from atm, company that manufactures tanks in lasvegas. I watch there tv show tanked I know they do only fish no corals. I see there product at petco, cause don't it take 1 to 6 weeks for tank to cycle curious using chemicals won't cause problems.

+1, I like this approach! That is how I did it. Microbe Lift Special Blend is the only thing I dose my tank with bi weekly for the good bacteria. Other than that, naturally letting the tank develop is a good start.
