I have a 15 gallon AIO acrylic tank with HOB skimmer. I plan to make this a frag tank with a pair of clowns. What is the best way to get this up and running and how long will it take? I was planning to not use sand (or should I?) and have cut a piece of eggcrate to fit the bottom so I can put plugs in there. I have my other tanks up and running but don't know if I should use water and or rock from them because I am worried about coraline and acrylic.

You go through the normal cycle... 6-8 weeks... testing for nitrates, nitrites and ammonia.
Want to try and speed it up... introduce a piece of live rock or sand from an established tank. Just because it's an AIO... does not mean it defies any laws of an ammonia cycle and can do anything any quicker.

I used 3/4 water from my reef tank and rest was fresh batch of new saltwater. . I took a few small live rocks from my other tank and added eggcrate to tank. Added frags never went to cycle period. No sand added goby on day one. Never had problem. Added skimmer two weeks later.

Dont use sand. It will only be a mess.
