Having a similar dilemma myself wit the Vega or the more expensive GHL Mitras. I'm holding out to see what AI does with the Vega in terms of custom color pucks and their director configuration tool. Hopefully by the time I pull the trigger at the end of January there will be some movement on this so I can make a decision.

FathomLED they are much better than both i have # sitting ontop of my 180 and if you search them here you will find a few people have them on their ocean ...(meaning 1 is a 460 and a 300)

It depends what you are trying to replace, how deep is your tank, etc.

If you want to replace a Radium in a deep tank for instance, well in terms of getting PAR to have clams on the sand a the same spectrum, I believe only the Radion PRO can do that, or close to.

I am going for the Mitras. I have the Vega color and it is good but not as good as the Mitras (better PAR, more channels, more control (the Vega controller is a joke) and UV with hyperviolet in the 420nm range.) The Mitras spread is 36x24x24, the Vega is 24x24x24. The Mitras par depth is 360 at 30" and Vega is 300 at 24". Big differences but the Mitras costs double but you get what you pay for.

I love halide for the broad spectrum and PAR it has. Nothing beats that yet! T-5's are a great punch in the same direction and the bulb selection is priceless with less of an electric bill.
The growth and color for corals is not to be denied. LED's are not to far off from becoming the next solution for both coral growth and color (never get hung up on PAR numbers as it doesn't always dictate how your tank will work out) I hate seeing shitty tanks with 1000's of watts of halide and then you go see a tank with 380W of T-5 or VHO with better color and growth. Same size tank, same corals but better husbandry!

Go with what you know works , not with what is fashionable.

I think you can as well.. But my bad I have ai sol blues.. Very happy w them as I added more.. LEDs keep getting better and these are the best solution for my tank.. I know some people that praise pacsun? Led? (I think that's they are called) do t5's have better color than led? Yes.. How much better .. Well if I gave t5 a 10 rating, the ai LEDs would be an 8.. So very close and in time LEDs will be insane.. I do have crazy Sps growth but it's not all in the lighting as we know. I would check out some tanks and see what you like.. Just don't get ebay LEDs! Although they do work, they are bad quality and no customer support.. I'll have to look into those other LEDs, but I'm done w lighting now for several years! I have 6 ai sols and two ai nanos on my tank
