I'm not new here, just the account. My tank cracked about a year ago so I got rid of everything. I'm currently setting up a new 10g nano. I'm in need of some live sand to seed my current sandbed and some quality lighting for cheap. Only decent place on SI that I know of seems to be Animal Kingdom but they are pricey!

Im also in Staten Island (set up my 135gallon reef 3 months ago, although i was in the hoppy 3 yrs before). I agree that Animal Kingdom in a bit pricey but they definitely are the only place I would go to on SI. I went in to Reef Fantasy on Victory a few times at first, and I have to tell u...I refuse to go to them for now on! The guy who owns the place never asks u if u need help or volunteers any information, and in fact he was downright rude and insulting to me (and I'm not a sensitive person). I also found his tanks to be rather sparce and in bad condition, and his prices arent good either. Im happy to say I have never spent a cent in there. I would rather spend a little more at animal kingdom, where the employees are nice and helpful and will chat with u for hours if u want...well worth the extra price. (BUT THATS JUST MY EXPERIENCE).

P.S. My tank is only 3 months old but if ud like a cup of my sand to seed ur tank ur more than welcome.

everyone has bad days

I've had a completely diffrent experence with them. Everytime I went into their store they never treated me like that. Chris and his father always asked me if I needed anything and were always very helpful.(and trust me I had a lot of questions)They have a ton of new tanks and they all look great. (Also the biggest puffer Ive ever seen!!!!). I was in there today because I needed some stuff to set up my new 90 gal and was in a bit of a rush. They went out of there way to help me as fast as they could. Maybe you just caught them on a bad day.

Where abouts in Staten Island are you guys? I'm in Rosebank right next to the Verrazano. I think I have passed Reef Fantasies a while ago, never went in though, this was before I had a tank. But yeah Animal Kingdom employees are good people...the prices kill me though...$2.99 for a snail! BTW I'm sure someone on here knows me, if he is still here. I sold him a 72g bowfront tank....he lives in Brooklyn, Williamsburg if I remember correctly.

I feel just the opposite about Animal Kingdom, everything I've bought there has dies within 3 months (I'm not a newbie lots of expierence with reefs and saltwater tanks)
one visit I was looking for Bionic guy there acted like I was an ass for using it.
I'll stop in everyonce in a while to see what he has but I hardly ever buy anything there.

If you havent been by RF in a whilke you'll be pleasently surprised thier store is stocked now with lots of live stock, dry goods and equipment.
Bill and chris are good people
