Tunze 6060

hey guys i just wanted to warn everyone to please check there powerheads.. whether it be a tunze, maxi jet or watever else u use once a month... i just experienced a major problem with my tunze and thank god i did not boil the water... here is the story...

i got home today from work and checked out my setup like i usually do everything looked fine (but it wasnt). only the actnic was on so i couldnt see everything very well.. well i left to go to the mall to buy a couple of things and get home (now my main lights are on) i feed the fish not seeing anything moving like my frogspawn or hammer or polyps from my acros... i was like  ohh ohhh wat happened... i look at my tunze and its not shooting out water... so i immediatly unplugged it and took it out.. (it was pretty hot. fortunately i had 2 big toyo fans running to keep the water cool... i took it apart and low and behold my problem was calcium buildup on the magnectic impeller and inside the housing were the impeller goes. i just took a sharp piece of plastic and scraped it off..... moral of the story check ur equipment at least monthly. everything thankgod everything survived and is looking great... (someone from up above was def. watching over my tank cause i still had polyp extension from all my acros with hardly any flow..)

just becareful especially if you use randys 2 part cause it will build up inside alot faster then u think... i think the last time i cleaned it out was 2 months ago... so im def. gonna check the pump once a month for any build up and functionality...

just looking out for the :grouphug::wink1:

When you do your monthly maintenance you should include cleaning the Powerheads as well.

I figured you had the cheaper ones because as mentioned the other ones stop and beep. What i normally do with mine is i put some water with vinegar in a bucket next to the tank. I then alternate the pumps in there. This way i never have to disconnect them. They come out as good as new.
