I was just browsing this site when two random thoughts/questions came to my head...
1) What is a rule/guideline you have never followed but still had success in running your tank?
For me it would have to be quarantining fish, I've only lost one fish before and I'm 99% sure it got bullied to death by the other bigger and more aggressive inhabitants.
2) I had a brain coral that wasn't looking too good with skeleton showing even after a few days I got him, my parameters were stable and nitrate was around 5-10ppm. I moved it over into the light a little more and did a water change and now it's fully open again. so I couldn't tell what was bothering it, whether it were chemistry issues or it just needed more time to adjust.
What is the first thing (coral or fish) in your tank that lets you know something is off?
