I would do triggers and some tangs. If I had to really narrow down tangs, I would with a purple, naso and atlantic blue. I personally love clown tangs as well but it will give you a hard time and supposedly they're not easy to keep.

Right now in my reef I have a pair of bluethroats, a niger, a black hawaiian triggers and a pinktail. They all seem to be doing well together except for the hawaiian and the pinktail sometimes go at it.

Some wrasses would also be good and a school of about 5 anthias would also be nice.

Now that's an answer!!

I would use minimal rock work and a shallow sand bed. 3-5 large tabling Acros and some LPS on the sand. The black tang as the centerpiece fish and a bunch of small colorful shoaling fish like chromis, small anthias etc. And there needs to be a wrasse or 2 of some kind because all tanks need a wrasse :)

They were probably purple tilefish, at least that's what they sound like from your description.

Man that's a lot if fish, I was going to add an Achilles, it was in QT for 6 weeks and I came home to it on the floor. I took the lid off the tank an left the house without replacing it. Not sure if I want to get another or a different dwarf angel.
