I do. I use this model http://www.aquaultraviolet.com/products/uvsterilizers/classic/160watt . I love it and it does a great job at keeping the water crystal clear as well as other outbreaks. I dont want to start a heated debate over how it controls outbreaks. However, it does keep things at bay. Just make sure your flow rate is correct and you are feeding it very clean water and it will work like a charm. In adition, change out your bulbs religously and dont waste your money on any wiper feature. They will leak its just a matter of time. In terms of killing benficial bacteria.....well we have all talked about this one for agaes and it really is a non-concern considering the majority are not in the water colum anyway. If you get one and have the room buy the longer tubes over the compact model. Contact time is king here. Good luck

You know I always thought they were a bunch of bs. after a lot of research I may end up getting one.. Do you still have to clean the glass when u have a uv sterilizer?
A lot of guys that have amazing tanks have them so it's def something I may add.. I don't see any negatives effects using one except changing out the bulbs.. Do they use a lot of energy?

UV is often set up improperly by hobbiests. They aren't using a large enough wattage or they are running water through it too fast or they are running real dirty water through it. (Carbon use is HIGHLY recommended so that the water is clear enough for UV to penetrate it fully). However, there's no danger to your tank if you set it up improperly.

Ozone is absolutely amazing but make sure you have an ORP monitor. A mistake with this can be dangerous to a tank.

With all of the above said, they are somewhat designed for different things. UV is to kill free-floating algae spores and parasites when they are in a free-floating stage.

Ozone is to break up numerous types of gelbstoff and produce cleaner water.
