I know this topic has been beaten to death, how many of you have second floor tanks.. I want a deep blue 75 on a wood cabinet stand it will be on the outside wall, not sure which way the joists run but i think it would be the shortest distance because the house is long not wide its a 2 family brick.I was gonna go small like a 40 breeder but my sump is a trigger systems ruby 36 and wont fit in a stand for a 40 breeder,I also think i would soon outgrow a 40. I was gonna get a 90 but im not gonna chance it.Thanks SteveZ

Is it an older house (usually built better that the ones today..)?
Any 'give' in the floors when you walk by that location?
Any chance you can use a stud finder on the ceiling below where you want to place the tank to find out which way the beams run?

Ideally you want them perpendicular to the wall where you want the tank to go. All outside walls are load bearing walls, so that is a plus. If the beams are perpendicular and the ceiling below shows no damage, you shouldn't have an issue with a 75G tank with a sump.
