this is not a true CL but check this out.

I used a quiet one 3000 to mix some salt today, it was quiet, go figure, and moved a bunch of water out it's 1" opening.
I'm thinking of using a quiet one in each corner of my tank, but inverted to there is just the intake pipe sticking in the water, and then the return coming in through a 45 degree angle fitting.
I'm not sure of the size but anything from the 3000 to the 6000 I already have.

Now to control it i have at my disposal a Chauvet SF-9005. This has more features than any wave timer/maker out there. I have it because back in the day I would have some killer parties and this helped run my lighting system. I'm not really throwing those parties anymore, so why not make use of the equipment I'm not using.

So I'm thinking a pump for each corner run by the crazy SF-9005. I can plug eight things into it. So I could have eight pumps running two at a time. depending on the watts it could be a low energy using CL, though not the cheapest off the bat.

by the way would anyone care to buy some dance lights? ;)

Jonathan, I only see the problem of self-priming the pumps. Each time the timer goes on and off will the pump have to re-prime itself? I'm sure you could design it so it wont drain. But I've seen the same thing done with Maxijets, so I'm sure you could make it work.

Check your PM!

these are like big powerheads, no priming.
I need a way to mount them to the bracing on the tank, pointing down, any ideas?

acrylic with a hole and the pump attached like it was a bulkhead?

Jonathan, you should give it a try but I am pretty sure the impeller section of the pump needs to be submerged to "prime" the pump.

I used a maxi-jet 1200 on a cheapo wave timer without soft start, the impeller eat it self up after 6 months. Make sure whatever you use have a soft-start feature.

that's a good point cali, I'll have to test it out.
otherwise i may have to hook them up as a traditional CL, right side up. I'm sure they will work then, being turned on and off.

well the videos on this link have me convinced, http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=611354
poor fish look like they're having a hard time keeping up.keep in mind this is also a fairly small tank, 30g 30" long 12"wide and 18"high.
stream style powerheads are the way to go.four of these in your tank at 8.5 watts each would be awesome.i'm going to try and make these tomorrow.

Those are fantastic. I especially like the prop modification.

I don't understand why the companies (maxijet) don't have any R&D, to change their products, and lower their prices.
