I came home today after work ( Tropical Island Aquarium ) to find my room filled with smoke. It turns out my return hose came off my pump. i had a hose clamp and zip tie and it still came off. my floor had water all over it and my heater was acting funny. Its a good thing only the return chamber emptied ( thanks custom king). At first i thought the smell was from the heater being dry, but it was from the temp controller melting. The only reason it didnt burn my wall down is because i had a piece of fire proof insulation board resting behind my tank. I just want to warn everyone to check all their connections so it doesn't happen to anyone else .

Glad everything is ok. You really should look into your plumbing. If you are using any vinyl tubing, you should inspect/replace this on at the minimum a yearly schedule if it is not reinforced tubing. Look for drying, salt creep, expanding at all connections where it attaches to the barb fittings.
Also you should look into lengthening any pvc connections and lower it. I do not like the idea of using vinyl tubing any longer than 1.5-2' at its maximum from return pump to hard pvc.
