surface film.

had a question for you guys, i am starting to get a nasty surface film on my sump and it could be one of two things. my skimmer overflowed a couple weeks ago and a bunch of nasty stuff got in the sump. or i started adding kalk but i wouldn't think thats the issue. i stopped running a light in the bottom of the tank because my refugium is a joke and nothing grows there. do you think without any lights in the bottom tank the surface film could go away?

Are you running filter socks? if so how often do you change them? Reason I ask is recently I had a filter sock overflow from being clogged/ full, and the water in the sump had a film until I swapped out the sock.

yea i swap em out every couple of days, its deff from the skimmer overflowing but ever since then i skimmed the top surface every time i changed the water. but it always grows back because of the refugium light. or would adding kalk to the sump (via ato) do this?

I have some macros that would grow in your sump. Would probably help with nutrient absorbtion and exporting. They're caulerpa macros and could probably grow in a toilet. You can have some if you want. Might help.

you need more water movement in your sump

In my sump I was getting a surface film. It was because in my return section there was nothing breaking the surface of the water.

I threw in an airstone in the one section to break the surface, no more film.

thanks guys its actually from my kalk I think. I must not of been giving it time to settle I'm going to make my kalk water a day prior from now on
