Just to let everyone know tonight htere will be a special on coral reefs of the seas and tidal oceans starting at 8pm on the discovery channel. the programs start at 8pm and run till 11 I beleive.

It's doable steve. My lunar lights run on a cycle and my tunzes have the night sensor to slow flow at night. There are also DIY projects that you can do the smae thing with to run LED's on dimmers and valves and tee's to redirect flow from a main pump.

I can give a brief overview Of what I remember. If any one can correct me or clairify by all means do so.
They first statred to dicuss how the corals grow. They said that the sunlight is important for their growth however thats not there food supply. The corals use the sun to photosynthsise the sugars and alge in the body. They feed during the night ours for plakton in the water.
They also said how the corals will over grow each and the more agressive one will spew out there guts to kill parts of the less agressive one.
Another part was the bascis on how the reef supplys food and everything for the animals of ocean and how with out ht ecoral theere would be nothing.
The last part was about spwaning which i mentioned earlier. The corals that don't reproduce a- sexually, wiat till i forgot wehat date but it was late spring in april when the waters are warmer and the waves are slow and they follow the phases of the moon to let off the eggs and sperm simotaniously in order to have the best chances of reproduction with other colonies that are in different areas. I believe its done on a full moon. They the a-sexual corals let out there eggs coated w/ sperm to flow in the low currents and hopefully land and produce another colony.
