Worst experience at Reef Central

[Flushtown Reefer]

So I made an account at RC. Now I don't know how many of you know this but there is a 50 post 90 rule on selling items. So anyway I put up a post asking for a coral ID and what its value would be (clearly not a violation of the rules) and I was given a violation. A member on there suggested I ask the admin why I was violated and I guess questioning the action of the authority on there is also not allowed cause now I'm banned. Did I do something wrong?

Some sites are more restrictive than others (RC being pretty high on that list). I've been on RC for 13 years, in the beginning it was small and cool like MR but it eventually got super strict. This is one of the reasons MR is so awesome. People who complain about deleted posts or infractions here are hilarious, the grass is always greener for some people. Consider it a lesson learned.

Yea I always hear RC is super strict, although I go through that site unnoticed, which is pretty odd, given the reputation I have on here. Or it could be the 4-5 people on here that make it seem that way.

WOW, I'm sorry I got you banned flushtown. I seriously did not think you'd get banned for requesting an explanation for the "infraction". That makes no sense what so ever. It's like being a child with very domineering parents who feel that children should be seen, and never heard.

I'm not on RC, but I've been on boards like that. One of my other hobbies is growing ladyslipper orchids, (not generally a hobby that brings out the most aggressive and belligerent type of poster) and I was a member of an on-line slipper growers forum. The guy who ran it was a paranoid control freak. He'd ban people for the slightest perceived offense. He once deleted my post and sent me PM warnings because I had simply referred to a site run by a person he disliked. He even banned his main mod. The upshot was that the banned mod and a bunch of others set up their own forum, which is vastly superior and far more relaxed.

I joined a while back and left , those people from mid states are too uptight and obnoxious , I got slapped on the wrist for offering to make brackets for a guy who needed a hanging solution for his lights!!! I wasn't even charging the guy lol whatever ..

It's not a big deal. I can always make another name. The mod who banned me was named dgenr8 so I guess he lives up to it. The only thing I was interested in was the monthly meetings you guys have.. That seemed cool.

So you broke the rules and were slapped with a warning? I'm sure you didn't just politely ask a mod and get banned for "nothing"... Especially dgener8. Larry's a nice guy and is pretty easy going.

RC might be strict, but the rules aren't too difficult to understand IMO. I've been on there for over four years and not once have I had even the slightest problem with any mods on RC.

I simply said that I do not understand why I got an infraction for posting about the value of a coral and that I looked at the rules and there was nothing there stating that I can't do that. I try to log on today and i got this "FlushtownReefer, you do not have permission to access this page blah blah blah".. now lets just say I that was rude, you mean to tell me I got banned for being mean to a mod or hurting his feelings? What kind of childish crap is that? They run that forum like it's North Korea. If you know him so well maybe you you can ask him what got him panties in a bunch. I 100% guarantee it's stupid reason that holds no merit.

Actually it you must have pissed him off somehow. Dgenr8 is a very cool guy. I have known him for years and I never had any problems with him. They also flagged your IP so when you make another acccount so soon it will be banned too.

not hard to get a suspension on there, lol got one for correcting a id in a f/s forum, got a 3 month ban and no they dont reverse it once it is done

Just take a break from RC for a bit. I'm sure the ban isn't permanent. Im also not taking any sides or "sticking up for my buddy"... I've met Larry in person a few times and seen some of his posts on RC. He's an easy going guy and im just saying that, unless he was having an extremely rough day, it's unlikely that he'd ban someone for asking for clarification.

I used to play World of Warcraft, a lot. (2 years sober, woot) One of the best sites for info on the game, optimizing your characters, gear, etc is elitistjerks.com. The name says it all though. You'd get an infraction for asking a question that's in the stickies, daring to post the wrong thing in the wrong section or ... get this ... poor grammar/punctuation, among other things. Forget a comma....infraction. Put the wrong thing in your signature (they have specific guidelines on that too... infraction... Sneeze, infraction.

RC must be run by the same class of admins. I also read somewhere that DARING to ask anything about the performance of the site (which is skimmate level bad these days) can also get you banned.
