250 watt MH on a Solana...

I'm thinking about using a Metal Halide pendant on my solana... Has anyone used a 250 watt MH on a small footprint like this? I'd like to use a higher Kelvin bulb and want to keep SPS in (at least) the top half of the tank.

Thoughts? Would a 150 be better?

I would do a 150 mh at most

heat will be your killer, i looked at doing mh with t5 also but now i no longer have a chiller it is out of the question

Right now my house is 62 degrees during the day, but in the summer heat will be a problem regardless. My AC unit is right by the tank though.

The only way you will know for sure is to try it out and see how it goes... With the halide having an exhaust and intake in the hood while it being far enough away from your tank you should be good.

I had a 250w sunpod over my solana with no problems. Heat was less of a problem with the 250w because it had a remote ballast.
