I like the idea of using a small pump to suck out the crap on the bottom of my sump. I have not been able to get a siphon going and probably really need to get the crap out of there. During a water change is the ideal time!
Will do this in a couple days when I find the time...

Bit of an update:
I have been changing the filter sock more regularly.
I also cleaned out the sump-used pump and hose idea first because I couldn't get to home depot/shell out more money since I already had pumps hanging about.
I used the Blue Life Aquatic drops plus about 50 g of water changes over 3 days.
I just added a new batch of purigen to the tank and turned my dual reactor (gfo and carbon) on again.
Phos went from .43 (from a test when I came back from vacation and let my fam take care of the tank).
Last night it was .16.
So, that's with about 1 week in all worth of work.
