RO/DI tds?

Ok so I set up an auto shut off RO/DI system. I am using a 18gal Rubbermaid Rough duty bin with lid ( grey Home Depot bin) with float switch. My tds are at 0ppm but after a week I tested the bin and tds went up to 37ppm. Than I tested my tank auto top of an tds were at almost 200ppm. Can this be from seepage from my bin and auto top off bucket. I am using a 2.5Gal white Home Depot bucket for ATO. All were new and washed and wiped dry with paper towel.

it sounds like the bin is leaching stuff out into the rodi water. have you tested the water right out of the rodi?

Ya it is 0 out of the RO/DI. I emptied the bin and refilled I am going to test it every other day to see what happens. The part I don't like is the auto top off container is crazy high. My tap water is only 30ppm.

You need to use "food Grade" containers for storage. I use a 32 gal brute can, an empty aquavitro salt bucket and a 16gal tank for ATO.

can you use a glass tank like a 5 gallon for the ato water? and put a lid on it to cover it?

Yes. I use a 16 high for my ato. I test the TDS every once in a while. When it starts to rise I wash out the tank. It usually stays clean for a few months.

I had the same problem with home depot buckets. I'm going to get a custom acrylic ato tank made by custom king on here

I think that's what I am going to do. The problem is I am limited with space for the storage. Going to have to find something that I can use as storage. Thanks for the help.

kathyc posted a very interesting article about rodi water. i read in the article that rodi water has a high cleansing capacity so the water doesn't stay pure for long, as soon as it touches anything especially metal that the tds goes up.
