Couple of issues and need some advice

This tank is going to be a 57 rimless sps tank. I have always ran a little refugium in a custom king sump and like this sump because it has a much bigger refugium. It is also the

The water level is the sump is pretty high, the baffles are 11" high.
I was wondering if I should drill a bunch of 1/2 holes towards the top of the first two baffles to lower water level and possibly help with this lack of bubble trap because I do not want to use the sponge that comes with it (not shown). I am really torn between using this sump and having Jeff (custom king) make me a new one.

Thanks all input is appreciated.
Just need some advice. I wanna make this as nice as possible the first time

i dont see why you can't drill it. i would take a dremel, and cut what ever you want off. you can't go all the way to the end, probably 1/2" or so.
i can't see how much room you have where the sponge goes, assuming where the egg crate is. i would glue a piece of acrylic in their, so the water can go over, under and over. to create a bubble trap. nice cat.

I worry about the cat. However if you keep the cat you won't need a sponge and should act as a bubble trap. Just be careful no fish end up making it in there or they will be a nice snack.

The return from a power outage shouldn't be too bad coming from a 57. Just test where your return nozzle should be in order to keep a low amount of returned water.

The baffles can be dremeled for teeth. Obviously won't look as clean unless your very steady and done it before.

Yeah...I don't see how that's gonna work with the cat. Are you gonna run a kittie litter reactor?

Haha no but a LFS by me uses kitty litter as substrate. No joke.

Thanks for all the input guys. This is now gonna go under a 93 cube it should just fit at 30 inches long.

I wasn't worried about the height in the event of a power outage. I basically was just trying to slow the water going in and out of the refugium and it would also save me from having to lift my skimmer up with eggcrate. It makes it really annoying to get my collection cup off bc I have to twist it.

I just want any advice on how to make the sump better or solve the problem of not using the sponge bubble trap. I think I could always throw cheato or feather caluerpa.
