A tang. Any tang, for that matter. I saw them in the wild, will see more this year and I understand now they don't belong to anything but the largest aquariums. I have the one of the smallest surgeonfishes- Kole tang, in my 100g and if I could rethink my decision, I would never have brought it home. They really need a lot of space and they are such an important fish on the reef. It's doing great in my tank, but I still feel sorry I can't give him more space to explore.Well, lesson learned.

i would have to agree!

6 line wrasse(aggressive), green coris wrasse(aggressive), melanopus clown(aggressive), any sand sifting gobies(buries everything), hawaiian cleaner wrasse(died within 3 weeks), catalina goby(less than a year), blue spotted jawfish(a year or two tops)....these are the fish i personally had at one time or another and would not get another.
hit and miss on copper banded butterfly(1 for 4+ yrs, 2 for less than 6 months) and moorish idol(1 for 3-4 yrs, 2 for less than 2 months) would not get another unless been in captivity more than 6 months.

Any goby, damsel, or chromis. And smoq while I understand the resoning behind your objections to keeping a tang I must disagree with the premise that you shouldn't own one. Don't feel bad for keeping a pet tang because it loses it spacious swimming room that is the ocean. Because in reality we do this to all our fish in our hobby. As long as you give it the best minimum tank size you can afford and it is adequite you should feel good about your purchase because you are saving it from the harshes of the food chain and inexperianced aquariasts.
