quick question..about lighting on a 3.5?

okay as u guys know, i have a 2.5 gallon tank with pc lights, sorry i didn't post pics, but the guy who i just bought a system from has a 3.5 gallon tank with 70 Watt MH lighting with an iceprobe...and fans....average temp is around 81-82, anyways i wanted to know if i could keep sps in that tank? I wanted to keep my blastos that i got from Joe, but i know it would have ended up getting fried. So....i want to add xenia and a rainbow monti into the tank, also some acans and stuff.....does this sound like a good idea. For some reason xenia tend to die in my highly lit tanks?

Doesn't seem like the best idea, although the lighting would be more than enough if the littlest thing goes wrong with the tank its in trouble. You have to think about how stable you can keep the tank, parameters, salinity, etc...

yea true, but i got an auto top off...so salinity isn't an issue....hey if i was allowed a bigger tank, then i would set it up...god i can't wait till med school..one year woot!...anyways thanks for the concern, btw welcome back...anyways i have kept many small tanks without incident due to tank parms, the others where just due to pure stupidity..

Stick to softies and LPS. You can try an SPS frag in a little while.

Thats because lighting isn't everything. Could have been a number of things. You could have had red bug, AEFW's, or monti nudis(if it was a monti of course).

Two things...

1. How do plan to provide the high random flow recommended for the SPS and not disturb the other corals at the same time in a tank that small?

2. Assuming you manage to make the SPS happy, how long before you need to remove it because it outgrew a tank that small?

i personally wouldnt attempt sps in such a small tank... but thats just my opinion...
