base rock question

will adding baserock which i;ve cleaned in freshwater start a cycle or will it seed w.o throwing my parameters off

What kind of base rock and no it shouldn't start any kind of cycling in the tank.

if the baserock was dried and dead, it should not cause a cycle.

Should be fine, I let mine soak for a few days and had no problems.

I added 30lbs of base rock to a 65g and I didn't see any changes with my testable parameters. However, I did get some crazy hair algae growth on the rocks that lasted a month and a half. And this was after soaking the rocks in saltwater for two weeks with a remora skimmer and doing two 100% water changes.

do you guys think marine epox will hold base rock together?

I did not have good luck with Marine Epoxy, but some others have.

It doesn't work like glue. It is more like a plastic that you have to mold around the little crevasses in the rock. When it hardens, it's like a plastic link between two rocks that holds them together.
