I have been running my new reef tank for about 7 weeks already, all parameters are normal, fish are alive i have 5 chromis they were for cycling the tank. Now i got some CUC and they have been working hard for a week already but its looks like there is no progress, this Algae doesn't even look like green hair algae but its like slimy green algae and some areas have bubbles coming out. i have attached some pics.
First off: In the future please do not use live animals (fish) to cycle a tank!! There are better ways to cycle a tank without causing agony to the animals.
Algae outbreaks in a new tank is normal. What you have described sounds more like "cyano". Suck it out of the tank best you can. Turkey baster works well; make sure you have a fish net handy for what ever tries to float away.
If you don't have an RO/DI yet I would seriously recommend you get one as your very next purchase. Tap water causes many problems - I should know; I started my first tank with tap water, and continued using it for many years.
I did have the light on during the cycle, I'm actually thinking of covering the whole tank with black garbage bags for 3 days. The turkey hater won't work because its really stuck to the rock. I do use the rodi water bought that right away. Can someone help me here for some reason I am not able to post pictures , I wanted to show you what the tank looks like with the algae.
i have had the lights off for the past 2 days but in my apartment the light situation isnt the best because my windows are large and they iluminate the whole apartment i did put the shades down but i don't think that will be enough.
I like the rock. Simple, yet classic. This is totally normal and pretty minimal for a new tank. Just close the blind and kill the light for three days.
This is totally normal, what else do you want us to say, man? It will go away in a few weeks, just keed up with water changes. Use GFO if you want, put chaeto in your fuge.
Thank you, much appreciated. Yes i have some chaeto in the refugium actually just added about 3 days ago.
The rock i got from Bulk Reef Supply the reefsaver rock, has alot of holes and caves very nice for the water flow as well and for the bacteria. Did buy the GFO its actually on its way will be here tomorrow.
Is this Hair algae or is this called something else?
