Ballast Placement

For you guys who run icecap ballasts, when you wire them where do you place them? Under the tank or in the canopy themselves? (Concerned about heat issues) Post any pictures if you have any.

I wouldnt place it in the canopy or under the stand unless it has good ventilation. I'm going to put mine on the wall behind the tank is against, about a foot higher than the canopy itself.

Kris, isn't that an eye sore on the wall? Post some pictures i'd like to see. Any other options?

Kind of is. But my wall and the ballast are both blue so its not that bad:teeth:. Other options, hmmmm, you could mount it on the top of the canopy? I'll get you a picture later .

Or you could mount it directly behind your canopy, you just wanna try and keep it away from moisture.

On top of the canopy but not right above the MH lamps.

Another option is to mount them on the backside of the canopy if you can prevent water splashing.

what about on the floor near the aquarium if you have a long enough cord? Maybe build a box to encase them that has a few PC fans built into it.

Floor next to the aquarium = Fire hazard...think of all the water we spill.

Keeping the ballast on the canopy with only power cords going off it will make taking off the canopy a lot easier and cleaner looking.

Less cords hanging off it and to untangle = less of a fire hazard.
