i had to move my clam to the very top of my rock work, its doing great there but i have one concern. i change 10 gallons a week out of my main display and because the clam is so close to the top it would be out of water for a little while, will this harm it? i know most corals do fine out of water for a little but wasn't so sure about a clam so figured id get your guys opinion thank you!

Try not to. Usually u have to burp the air out of a clam if its out of the water.

Take the 10 gal out of the sump. Use a bucket head
What's a "bucket head"?
Taking the water out from the sump will still drop the water line of your DT unless you have a way of shutting the drains before you take the water out of the sump.

No it will not. This is the job of the overflow no matter how much water you take out of the sump

Not sure how everyone else's plumbing works but I can drain my whole sump and my DT stays full :scratch:

Mine (crocea) gets exposed every time I do a WC in my nano, I never burp it and have so far (had the clam a bit over a year) never had a problem. I have seen plenty of pics of clams exposed at low tide so I would think it isn't a problem.
