At 7pm my tank was 85.5; it probably was 1 degree higher in the mid afternoon.

I have 10g AGA with an IceProbe and two fans blowing across the surface of the water. With all of this equipment my tank is around 10 degrees below ambient temperature. It?s good but I?m sure I?d start losing some livestock if the heat wave continued.

If we have similar temperatures at any point during the rest of this summer, I?m definitely looking into a DIY model of an IceProbe.

Just out of curiosity, how long can hardy inhabitants, i.e. candy canes, brain, clown fish, cleaner shrimp, Rics, etc., sustain this high temperature?

MVS, you would be suprised how resilent our tanks are to certain things. Unfortunately, heat is not one of them. Constant highs can cause a new purchase of livestock come September. If you can't do a chiller, try more fans and ice.
As for me, I run a 1/2 hp chiller which is in my basement (my tank is on the 1st floor), so I don't have to hear it or feel the heat it puts off. My basement is also cooler, so with my sump being down there, chiller doesn't run all that much. AC fo me and the wife on the first floor also keeps the chiller from running by keeping the room the tank is in cool.

Thanks,

Fortunately, the heat wave is dieing down so I should be fine until the next one; assuming we will have another before this summer is complete. My temperature is generally between the range of 79 ? 82; it's currently 83 and dropping.

This recent incident has made me realize that I do need additional equipment if the temperature is going to increase in the future. Fortunately, I will be moving in the future so this will be my last summer with out an air conditioner.

Hi,

I noticed that if you take a the top of the tank and let the evoperation take place, you can keep the tempretures much more stable.

I have a chiller that used to be on nonstopp before I figured this out. Now it barely runs.

i did that yesterday and I was surprised by how much water evaporated! it was 1 gallon about every 12 hours so it would have been 2 gallons a day if I didn't top off. crazy!:dead1:
