heat wave in and out of tank

well today has been a big lesson for me.first i dont have a chiller,ac for kids come first.anyway today i felt the effects of the heat when i looked into my tank to see my colt all droopy and closed very tight,frogspawn closed,shrooms shrivled,pretty much everyone looked distressed.i have brought the temp down some over the course of some hours.temp is alot cooler now being the i placed a fan over the tank.so what i need to know is can my colt recover? it still has color but it dont look good if i have to post a pic i will.everything else seems fine.thanks

Very tough to say, it depends on how much stress it was under while the temperature was above normal.

You will know very soon, however, whether it will make it, since if not it will start to melt/rot. If that occurs get it out of the tank ASAP!

Yeah. I would keep a close eye on it. Once it looks like it is not going to make it, pull it out the tank ASAP...

what would be the easy way to tell that its at the point of no return?

when it start to melt away into like mush and it would be like a really dark brown. But the leathers are fairly hardy I think it will recover.

Why didn't you have the Fan on the tank, before the temp reached that high?
Why wait until it got to that point?

We are going through a heat wave....

i didnt have the fan on because i didnt know any better.which was a lets say stupid move on my behalf(i must admit).its one to grow on.as far as the colt goes he has not got mushy actually he still has its stiffness to him.the color hasnt changed which im assuming is a good thing for now.sometimes i miss thing when it comes to the tank,i mean kids,wife dog,yankees,tiredness from work its kinda hard for me to remember certain things.besides since the start of the summer i never had a problem so now i made it my business to make sure this doesnt happen again im pretty sure lots of people have made costly mistakes when they started in this hobby.

If you don't have a chiller, you have to be prepared with a fan for the summer. Temps get hot in NYC... Gotta keep the tank nice and COOL...

For emergencies, fill plastic soda bottles with water and place in freezer. When the need arises float the bottle in the tank or sump until temp drops. Make sure temp does not drop too fast tho.
