Are we saying things that could be hurting our LFS?
Their are good and their are bad LFS. It is up to you where you buy your fish. Right? Lets just say we want to buy a fish. Before you buy a fish. Do you ask a few question? I like to see him eat. How long you had him. Check fish gills. How much is he... So on.... My point is you get to pick your fish. And its up to you if you going to QT what you buy. That can result in good or bad experience.
I see people lately talking about their bad experience in a few LFS. Examples seeing death fish in LFS. Fish or coral dieing few days later. Service is slow, prices are not mark. Etc,
My point people is you are in control of where and what to buy. It is good to tell us your experience about a store good or bad. But how we tell it can leave a good or bad impression on that LFS. Especially if you never visited that store.

+1 If someone actually had a bad experience in a LFS. Try to work it out with the store owner or sponsor via phone, PM's, e-mail or if your close enough visit the store.
Posting a bad comment by way of a thread, can do serious damage to a business.

A sponsor might be so busy at his store, and have no time to visit the his forum, to view his posts, PM's, ...etc. Give him or her the opportunity to redeem themselves, before you as the buyer state any bad claims.

A bad experience can turn into a great experience!

great thread , makes you actually think of an honest answer, i can tell u that in my mind , I have been swayed by lfs horror stories , only to go to the said shop and have a good experience , so now I don't read into those threads anymore .

Also this forum has a lot of characters that have unknown people skills or habits that may drive lfs workers insane so u really have to read both sides of the story .

Lowballers and power bargain hunters! A complete lfs nightmare, so yes I think those threads cause more harm than good......great thread.

I would be fine with this but there are certainly good enough reason for people to post good/bad experiences. In most cases, as an enthusiast we want to travel to different stores to test waters. I am in favor of this and would rather know ahead of time if it is a waste of time! Good/bad experience is based on how you perceive the actual situation.

There are plenty of threads of appreciation so why concentrate on bad experiences? The bad experiences / threads are normally compiled with others chiming in with their experiences as well. If a high percentage of individuals come into a thread stating the same experience, then that is the problem of the shop to get those items cleaned up. There are others that come in and bash that bad experience to inform that this is a rare case.

So I say POST along and read into it how you should. Open minded that not all experiences aren't the same. If more than a few good member can state the same claim, then it's warranted!

If you actually think about it... Everything that is on a forum is bad for LFS. Even good press can eventually go bad, and can put a sour taste in anyone person's mouth.

While any complaints and grievance should first be brought up to that said store to try and rectify a problem it is more often than not brought onto forums and people start crying a river. Does that make anything better? Hardly.

These will eventually turn into any stores now wanting to no longer deal with online communities. Stores will no longer offer discounts. Revoke any dealings as vendors and think about it... maybe they quite possibly think about closing. So now your LFS that you relied on for advice, assistance with maintenance, products etc... close shop because of the eventual word of mouth. Now you have to travel out of your way to get to the next shop that you have 0 rapport with, or worse having to deal with any larger chain stores.

Also put in mind now, that your LFS also has to deal with competition all over. From new stores opening up, internet stores and even forum sales. While you may think that... "Well I should buy X said coral from XX website/member instead of supporting your LFS that has that same coral. That helps you with questions... Just because you think that you'll get a better deal...? Bahahaha... Get real. Have you seen some of the outrageous prices people are asking for a polyp/frag of XX coral. Guess what... they spent less on it and they are passing on "Their Great Savings" onto you. Those same people go out to those same LFS and "Grow Out" (give me a break) pay less through the LFS and charge you more.

So there you have it. However like all things you can take what I say, like a grain of salt.

Support your LFS!!!!

These words are my opinion and are not in any way shape or form directed towards any said members or stores.

I agree skene, in many ways these type forums have taken many sales away from lfs. The good portion of my equipment on current setup was purchased usd from members here

Many people arent as experienced or take time to understand certain purchases before they get it home, thats part of problem as well. I personally dont like when pricrs arent posted on tanks but that wouldnt stop me from going someplace. As far as poor customer service. My closest lfs is abso fish. Ive been in the strore when i wanted to drown employees in the display pond and other times been very pleased with the sevice and knowledge passed along
