I might be hated for asking this question but how does one know if a coral is or is not a Jason fox???? Is it based on a guidebook or something ???

It's a very known name that means nothing more to me than grab your wallet !!!
I know all the elite reefers are gonna chew at me for even using his name in this thread but again I ask!!! How do you know it's Jason fox??? The only thing I get from hearing that name is sticker shock .

So if anyone knows how to identify the coral as a Jason fox please let me know.!

These threads drive me bit crazy!
If you don't want a jfox or a tyree or whatever don't buy one !
IMO j fox is a great thing for the hobby he promotes the aquaculture of the most beautiful corals this is a good thing it makes corals hardier over time and its less corals being taken from the ocean !
I would never buy $300 eye chalice but there not my thing I will pay $75 for a healthy colorful sps frag that I can see pics of mother colony see how it will grow up!! I guess my point is if u don't want it don't buy it but don't knock others for what they like

Good point but I'm not knocking anyone , just trying to figure out if the stated coral is what it is supposed to be??? Fake or real deal ?? Some vendors toss his name around and if your new to the hobby you may get mugged !!personaly I don't care if Jason fox takes my trash out twice a week if he has something I want then I will buy it without concerne of the price!!

This is a good question, But ask yourself this?
How do you know any coral is what it says it is.

So with that being said, I don't care about the name of the coral. I go by the look. It just happens to be that he has some nice looking stuff. If i went to the next vendor and he had something that look great, I'd pay what the price is if i thought it was worth the price regardless what the name was..
Last example. I went to Reef Rafts page on another site and their Sticks(Sps) are priced so high, 200.00 to who knows 500.00 or 600.00 for a 1/2" to 1" Frag. I think that's ridiculous. I would not pay that even if it was dipped in gold. But that's my opinion cause if you go to their site. Their frags sale out in minutes. My advice in this hobby is buy what you like and you think is priced fair, Remember that everyone is different when it come to giving something Value.

By the way i only bought 8 Frags at the swap and 6 frags were Jason Fox and not one was more then 70.00 dollars and was extremely happy
6 Frags for 345.00 average 57.50

Your 101% correct , if you like it then buy it but I really wish I could identify them , I have seen plenty of coral mislabeled but that's nothing google images can't help with on the fly !!!

Overall I just wish they had a j fox frag book lol and good shopping at the swap , post some pics if you can .

If it is a fox price tag dont buy it from someone other than him,if its is cheaper but someone says its a fox coral whats is there to loose its cheaper and if it is the real deal you made out if its not you still got a nice coral for cheap.

Wow!!

God forbid someone asks how to tell a coral is what someone promises when it has a $500 price tag on them sometimes.

Does he have nice corals? Yes. Are there some that he sells that cost you a paycheck for a 1"X1" piece? Yes.

Is any coral in my opinion worth the asking price for some of his frags? NOPE.

Being a fact that you need to have deep pockets for his nicer stuff I think it was a great question by saltwater.

This is one coral that almost made me pull the trigger on a 300.00 frag, But i couldn't justify the size for the price. But it's One Bad A$$ Coral

I wish people would use the scientific name as a way to identify corals rather than some random made names. I know husbandry is fairly difficult sometimes, but at least we would get an idea.

I prefer Acropora microclados, pink cups green base, to "strawberry shortcake" anytime...

With regards to "not bought directly from"... I think some day we are going to see some nasty "copyright" trials. For instance, say I start fragging my "DFS true aussie Acropora echinata" from Liveaquaria and decide to call it that way when I sell frags: couldn't they sue me for doing so? After all if the piece ends up being a non-named Acropora echinata with white base and blue polyps, it might be different from the "official" version that liveaquaria sells for a nice price?

Maybe we should just do descriptions like "Acropora echinata, cobalt blue, frag from a mother colony of Liveaquaria's "True aussi DFS"". That way it is more scientifically accurate, and it indicates the "lineage" for those who are into that.

This may help weed out the average run of the mill stuff!

Lineage is key to buying some of these elite pieces and lineage is very easy to figure out because on chalices its only probably gone between 2-4 people max most times since most elite chalices are slow growers. When I sell a piece that has a j.fox tag to it or tyree or whatever I provide lineage when asked for example j.fox sold to dnov99 who sold to me very easy. Imo lineage is everything
