Re: Booster Pump For RO/DI

I know a booster pump is suppose to go btwn the water line and ro unit. I have a couple of feet btwn my water reservoir and ro unit. It comes out slow even when the filters are new. I dont want to put the pump before the unit to only have the filters get dirty quicker. I want to add it after the ro unit. So my question is, have anybody tried to put the booster pump after the ro unit? And what was the out come?

The reason your water is coming out slow is most likely because you've got insufficient water pressure entering the RO/DI. Putting the booster pump after the RO/DI will do absolutely nothing at all to help your output.

Do you have a pressure gauge on your RO/DI? What is the incoming pressure?

Gotcha. When I put in a new filter in the first chamber it gets completely dirty with a matter of 6/7 hrs. This only starting happening when I made the waterline to the reservoir longer than it was when I first hook it up. I dont know if that could be the reason why its getting dirty so quick. Also I just bought some new filters for the first chamber. Could it be that i was using a higher micron than these new filters i have? ( Not that I remember which filters I was using before the new ones I just got, lol )

The way I have mine set up is I have water from tap going into a 1 micron filter, then into pump, then into a 1 micron filter, then carbon blocks, membrane, and finally DI. My water coming out of my tap is around 40 PSI, the pump makes it about 85 PSI. I use the first 1 micron filter to help keep gunk out of the pump. It could probably be a 5 micron but I didnt have an extra when I replaced the old one. I usually make a few 100 gals before I have to replace the first filter

This is how mine is set up. It's before the RO unit though. Hope this helps.

Putting the booster pump after the system will defeat the purpose of the pump. I would suggest you get the pressure gauge, it will help you to determine if you would need to change out your filters, if it looks dirty but the pressure remains the same they are good to go. Also, the micron variation make all the difference, 1 micron will get more stuff out of the water and clog faster, hence the pressure decreasing. Personally been using 5 micron.
